Following a court order in the US, Donald Trump's surname has been removed from the name of the "Trump John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts" in Washington. The center's management announced that all physical signs bearing Trump's name on the building and campus have been removed. The addition of Trump's name to the center had previously sparked controversy and backlash in the art world.
Following a court decision in the USA, the surname of President Donald Trump was removed from the name of the famous performing arts center "Trump John F. Kennedy Center" in the capital Washington. The center's management announced that all physical signs bearing the Trump name have been removed.
COURT RULING COMPLIED WITH
Matt Floca, the director of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, informed the federal court that the court's ruling had been implemented.
Floca stated that all physical signs containing the Trump name located in the center's building and campus have been removed.
NAME CHANGE DREW REACTION
The White House announced in December 2025 that the name of Kennedy Center, one of Washington's landmarks, would be changed to "Trump-Kennedy Center." Following the decision, the Trump name was added to the building and the center's website.
The name change drew backlash from the art world, and musician Chuck Redd, who had performed at the center for many years, canceled his scheduled concert.
RENOVATION AND NEW PROJECT ANNOUNCED
In a statement made in February, Trump announced that the center would close on July 4, and that renovation work lasting two years would begin, along with the construction of a new entertainment complex.
COURT ORDERED REMOVAL OF "TRUMP"
US District Judge Christopher Cooper ruled on May 30 to remove the expression "Trump" from the name "Trump John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts."
