Atakan Çiftçi, who has been a photographer for years in the Kağızman district of Kars, is married and a father of four. He put his second-hand camera up for sale on social media. A person who called him at 22:39 and identified himself as Onur expressed interest in the camera.

NEITHER THE COURIER NOR THE PERSON BUYING THE CAMERA CAN BE REACHED

Atakan Çiftçi stated that he agreed with this person for 145,000 lira, saying, "I told him that I would send the camera to the workplace address of my relative living in Istanbul. I mentioned that he could inspect the camera in his presence and then make the payment to receive it. We agreed, and on September 7, 2024, I sent the camera via a courier from Kağızman district to my relative Savaş Köroğlu living in Istanbul. On September 9, 2024, around 11:00, Savaş Köroğlu called me to say that the package had arrived. I then called the person named Onur who wanted to receive the camera and informed him that the package had arrived. That person also called Savaş Köroğlu on his mobile phone and said he would come to pick up the camera the next day. On the same day at 13:49, a person dressed in courier clothing went to Köroğlu's workplace and said, 'There is a document deficiency,' stating that he needed to take the package. Since that time, we have been unable to reach either the courier or the person who said he would take the camera. My loss is 145,000 TL. I am filing a complaint against the person in courier clothing and the person who called me identifying himself as Onur, who caused me to incur this loss. I never thought I would be scammed like this. We are confused about who to trust," he said.

"HE SAID HE WOULD TAKE IT TO THE COLLECTION BRANCH"

B.O., who works as a secretary at Savaş Köroğlu's company, stated in his testimony that on September 9, 2024, the package that Savaş Köroğlu was expecting had arrived. On the same day, around 14:00, a man aged 20-25, wearing orange courier clothing, came to me and said, 'The delivery receipt for the package addressed to Savaş Köroğlu has not been taken from the truck, my superior urgently told me to receive it.' When I asked him where he would take the package, he said he would take it to the collection branch and would return it within 2 hours. Upon this, I called Mr. Savaş and explained the situation. He said, 'If he will return it within two hours, give it to him.' So, I handed the package over to this person. After that, this person did not return.

"IT WAS NOTIFIED THAT IT WOULD BE DELIVERED WITH A RECEIPT"

Savaş Köroğlu explained that his brother-in-law Atakan Çiftçi sold the camera and lens online, but stated that it was not safe here, so he sent it to him via courier for delivery to the buyer. He said: "Atakan sent the camera to me via courier for me to deliver to the buyer. On September 9, 2024, around 14:00, while I was outside for work, the mentioned package arrived at my workplace. After about 2-3 hours after it was delivered to the workplace, a person dressed in the uniform of the courier company came to the workplace, stating that the package was delivered without a receipt and that it would be delivered against a receipt. He received it from the secretary and left the workplace. When I came back to the workplace, I learned about this incident, and when we called the courier, they stated that the package was marked as delivered in their system, and that the person in the camera footage was not one of their employees, which made us realize that we had been scammed."
