It was stated that Muharrem Can, a volunteer of AKUT who was martyred in the forest fire in Seyitgazi, Eskişehir, served as a chief engineer at Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ) and worked on the HÜRJET jet training aircraft project. It was noted that Muharrem Can had been volunteering with AKUT for 15 years and had participated in many operations, ranging from earthquakes to fires and flood disasters.
The identification and DNA analysis of the 5 forestry workers and 5 AKUT volunteers who were martyred in the forest fire that started in Seyitgazi, Eskişehir, and crossed into the Afyonkarahisar border is ongoing at the Ankara Forensic Medicine Institution. The relatives of the martyrs, waiting for the delivery of their bodies in front of the forensic medicine institution, were overwhelmed with tears. It was stated that martyr AKUT volunteer Muharrem Can served as the chief engineer at TUSAŞ and was involved in important projects. It was learned that martyr Can was also one of the chief engineers of the jet training aircraft HÜRJET developed by TUSAŞ.
"HE TOOK PART IN EVERY OPERATION"
Martyr Can's close friend Orhan Kızıltepe said, "Our martyr Muharrem was my friend for 20 years. He lived alone in Ankara and was single. He had been a volunteer at AKUT for over 15 years. He participated in countless operations. He took part in every kind of operation from earthquakes to fires and flood disasters. He was also serving as a chief engineer. He was involved in important projects there as well. Unfortunately, we couldn't believe it."
Kızıltepe stated that Can's dream was to help people, saying, "He worked on debris in many provinces during the February 6 earthquake. He never withheld his material and moral support. He was truly very valuable. He was a very beneficial person for this nation. It is really a great loss. I can't believe his death."
CONDOLENCE MESSAGE FROM TUSAŞ
On the other hand, TUSAŞ published a condolence message on its social media account for those martyred in the forest fire. The post included a photo of engineer Can with the jet training aircraft HÜRJET developed by the company, stating, "The pain of our heroic forestry workers and AKUT volunteers who were martyred while trying to extinguish the fire in Eskişehir is in our hearts. We wish God's mercy upon all our martyrs, especially our AKUT volunteer colleague Muharrem Can, who went to support the region, and we wish patience and condolences to their relatives. May our esteemed nation's head be held high."
TUSAŞ General Manager Mehmet Demiroğlu also expressed his condolences, stating, "I wish God's mercy once again upon our colleague Muharrem Can, one of our chief engineers of HÜRJET, who was martyred while intervening in the fire in Eskişehir, and all our martyrs, and I wish patience and condolences to their families and loved ones."
