The prosecutor Yavuz Engin, who is handling the "Newborn Gang" case, stated in the trial of Mustafa Kemal Zengin and 12 defendants, "They wanted to silence not me, but Turkish justice." Engin, who mentioned that the defendants threatened him and his family with death, made a striking statement during the hearing: "I have 16 bullets and one life; if they have the power, let them come and take it."
"The 'Newborn Gang' case was opened by the public prosecutor Yavuz Engin, who is alleged to have been threatened in his office by Mustafa Kemal Zengin, among 13 defendants who appeared before the judge for the first time. During the hearing, the defendants claimed that a setup was orchestrated against them, while Prosecutor Engin reacted by saying, 'The state does not orchestrate setups.'
"I HAVE 16 BULLETS, ONE LIFE"
During the hearing, Prosecutor Engin expressed that he faced threats, violations of privacy, and assassination plans against himself and his family while conducting the investigation into the deaths of newborn babies, stating, "They wanted to silence not me, but Turkish justice. They targeted my family and wanted me to close the case. But a Turkish prosecutor does not sell his honor. I have 16 bullets, one life; if they have the power, let them come and take it."
"IF YOU CONTINUE YOUR DUTY..."
Prosecutor Engin stated that the defendant Mustafa Kemal Zengin threatened him by hitting the table and shaking his finger, saying, "If you continue your duty, you will die; your daughter and wife will be harmed."
"THIS ATTACK HAS BEEN MADE ON TURKISH JUSTICE"
Concluding his statement in the hearing with the words, "These attacks are not against me, but against the honorable public officials of this country. This case is an account of an attack directed at the justice of the Turkish nation," Prosecutor Engin demanded the punishment of the defendants.
