After the consecutive warnings from the Meteorology and AKOM, a 'yellow code' alert was issued in Istanbul. The rainfall has started in the city where the "Yellow Code" alert was given. The rains that began on the European side will turn into heavy downpours across the province in the evening hours.
SCHOOLS IN ISTANBUL HAVE BEEN CLOSED
An announcement came from the Istanbul Governorship:
"According to the assessments made by the General Directorate of Meteorology, due to the expected thunderstorm and heavy rain starting in the European side of Istanbul after noon today, and to prevent any inconveniences that may arise from the resulting traffic congestion, education in public and private kindergartens, primary schools, secondary schools, and high schools that conduct dual education in our province has been suspended starting from 16:00. Our school administrations will inform our parents. Parents who wish can pick up their children. For working parents, necessary precautions will be taken by the school management and on-duty teachers until they can pick up their children."
ISTANBUL IS GRIDLOCKED
Following the decision to cancel schools, traffic congestion in Istanbul increased. According to the information shared by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality's Traffic Density Map as of 17:00, traffic congestion has risen to 87%. The congestion is increasing every minute.
