Trump met with Ahmed Shara and Mohammed bin Salman in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan also participated in the summit online. ERDOĞAN PARTICIPATED ONLINE
The meeting between Trump and Shara was the first meeting between the leaders of the US and Syria in 25 years. President Trump and Syrian President Shara were also joined by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. President Erdoğan also participated online in the historic summit that took place after 25 years.
"LIFTING SANCTIONS IS A MODEL FOR OTHER COUNTRIES"
President Erdoğan stated that President Trump's decision to lift sanctions against Syria is of historical significance during the Turkey-US-Saudi Arabia-Syria online meeting. Erdoğan also expressed his belief that the US's decision to lift sanctions on Syria would serve as an example for other countries that impose sanctions.
ERDOĞAN'S FIRST MESSAGE REGARDING THE SUMMIT
In his first statement regarding the Syria summit, Erdoğan said: "This morning, President Trump of the United States, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia, and President Ahmed Shara of Syria held a four-way meeting. Hopefully, we will soon see the reflections of this meeting. I thank President Trump for announcing yesterday in Saudi Arabia that he would lift sanctions against Syria, following our phone conversation last week. I also trust in my friend Trump's support in our efforts to end the humanitarian tragedy in Gaza, which has now reached the level of brutality. Hopefully, we hope to receive good news that will soothe hearts regarding Gaza soon."
