In Siirt, the statement of Şükrü Kaya, the neighbor who killed Gülhan Börülce, a mother of two, for her gold, revealed details about gambling addiction and the murder. While Gülhan Börülce's body was found, Kaya and his wife were arrested.
YOUNG WOMAN STABBED TO DEATH
The incident occurred on December 18. Relatives of Gülhan Börülce (39), who had not heard from her, reported the situation to the 112 Emergency Call Center. Health and police teams were dispatched to the address. Upon entering the house, the teams determined that Gülhan Börülce had been stabbed to death. An investigation into the incident was initiated by the Siirt Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, and it was learned that the woman's husband was military personnel in Iraq. While Gülhan Börülce was buried in Ankara, her upstairs neighbors Şükrü Kaya (32) and his wife Fatma Kaya (29) were taken into custody as part of the investigation.
"I STARTED STABBING HER IN THE STOMACH"
In his statement at the police station, Şükrü Kaya stated that he had been gambling illegally for a while and had lost a large amount of money, saying, "Everything I had went to waste in this way, but I could never stop playing. Just two days ago, I played again. If it were now, I would play again. This addiction led me to the thought of committing such a murder. I had seen Gülhan Börülce's gold many times while entering and exiting the apartment before the incident. For about a month, I had been thinking about killing Gülhan Börülce and taking the bracelets from her arm. In the morning, I put on my gloves and went to the front of Gülhan Börülce's house. I knocked on the door and tried to enter with an excuse. I started to choke Gülhan Börülce. We struggled for about 2-3 minutes, then I went to the kitchen and took a knife. I started stabbing her in the stomach. I left the knife on her, took the bracelets from her right arm, and put them in my pocket. I saw that Gülhan had a gold chain around her neck and earrings in her ears, but I didn't take them. Then I left the house, put the bracelets in the center console of the vehicle I got into, and went to my duty station, where I took off my clothes and washed my hands and face," he said.
"I BOUGHT FOUNDATION TO COVER THE SCRATCH MARK"
Şükrü Kaya continued in his statement: "I placed the gloves on an empty field and covered them with a stone. Then I went to Lise Street with my car, parked it in the parking lot. I took 3 of the gold items from the center console and put them in a baby bootie. I gave the gold to a jeweler. The jeweler took the gold and sent the money, which I remember as 163 thousand lira, to my account. To cover the scratch mark that formed on my chin while I was struggling with Gülhan, I bought foundation. I sent 85 thousand lira of the money that came to my account to pay off my debt to the dealer from whom I bought my car. Then I sent 10 thousand lira to pay off a debt I had to someone. After that, I sent 15 thousand lira to a family friend that I owed. Then I bought fuel for my vehicle. I paid for this from that money. During this time, my wife called. She said they couldn't reach Gülhan and asked me to break the door."
"I STARTED TO PERFORM CPR"
In his statement, Kaya said that he went to the apartment when his wife called him, "When I arrived, I saw that the door was open. I checked on our neighbor Gülhan and said, 'It seems like there is a pulse.' I started performing CPR. The medical team arrived, and when they realized she was dead, they stopped intervening. I took Gülhan's son outside and walked around a bit. I was present as an identity witness at the hospital. While the autopsy was being performed, Gülhan's husband entered the room. I stood up, hugged him, and said, 'May our heads be healthy.' I signed the autopsy documents as an identity witness. I received the death certificates from the clerk to deliver to her husband and went home. Realizing that I had no way out, I decided to tell everything in all its reality. I regret it, and I accept the charges against me," he said.
THE MOMENT THEY EXCHANGED THE GOLD IS ON CAMERA
Fatma Kaya denied the accusations against her, while the Kaya couple was arrested after the transactions. Meanwhile, security camera footage emerged showing Şükrü Kaya exchanging the gold he stole at the jeweler. The footage shows Kaya handing over the bracelets he stole to the jeweler, then checking the money that came to his account and signing the sales document, before leaving the workplace.
