The investigation initiated by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the deaths of Kadir Muhammet (6), Masal Böcek (3), mother Çiğdem Böcek, and father Servet Böcek, who were taken to the hospital on November 12 due to suspected food poisoning after dining at a restaurant in Beşiktaş, is ongoing.
RETURNING FROM HOSPITAL TO HOTEL CAPTURED ON CAMERA
As part of the investigation, security camera footage has been obtained showing the moments when the family returned to the hotel after going to the hospital. The footage shows the family arriving by taxi and entering the hotel.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Servet and Çiğdem Böcek, along with their children Kadir Muhammet and Masal, who arrived in Istanbul from Germany on November 9 and stayed at a hotel in Fatih, were hospitalized on November 12 due to complaints of nausea and vomiting. Despite intervention, the children could not be saved. The mother, who was treated at Taksim Training and Research Hospital, passed away on November 14, while the father's treatment was reported to be ongoing. Sad news also came from the father, Servet Böcek, who was being treated in intensive care.
Police investigations revealed that the family arrived in Istanbul from Germany on November 9 and stayed at a hotel in Fatih, where they consumed mussels from a street vendor in Ortaköy and dined at a restaurant on November 11. Due to ongoing complaints of vomiting and nausea that started on the same day, family members went to nearby hospitals on November 12, and after treatment, they were discharged and returned to the hotel.
2 TOURISTS WERE ALSO HOSPITALIZED
Two tourists staying at the hotel where the family was lodged were also treated at the same hospital due to complaints of nausea and vomiting. A third person who was staying in the same room and accompanying the patients was hospitalized for examination due to low heart rate.
HOTEL WAS EVACUATED
Following the police investigation at the hotel, it was evacuated, and customers were redirected to different hotels. Additionally, in the investigation, hotel owner H.O, confectioner F.T, kokoreç seller E.E, baker M.K, mussel seller Y.D, café owner F.M.O, the son of the pest control company owner S.K, and pest control worker D.C. were detained.
11 PEOPLE IN CUSTODY
As part of the investigation, while the procedures for 8 suspects at the Public Security Branch Homicide Bureau were ongoing, 2 hotel staff and a pest control worker were also detained this morning. It was noted that the toxicological report to be prepared by the Forensic Medicine Institution and the report on food samples taken from businesses by the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry were expected to be released today.
As part of the investigation, mussel seller Y.D, confectioner F.T, kokoreç seller E.E, and café operator F.M.O were referred to Çağlayan Courthouse after completing their procedures at the Public Security Branch Homicide Bureau. The procedures for the 7 suspects currently in custody at the police are ongoing.
