In the Birecik district of Şanlıurfa, former agricultural chamber president Mehmet Hıdır Çakmak was shot and killed while trying to reconcile his son and his cousin, who were fighting over a land dispute. Three people have been detained in connection with the incident.
The former head of the agricultural chamber, who went to reconcile with a relative fighting with his son in the Birecik district of Şanlıurfa, was shot and killed.
LAND DISPUTE FIGHT ESCALATED
According to the information obtained, the incident occurred in the rural Güvenir neighborhood of Birecik in the evening hours. Former agricultural chamber president Mehmet Hıdır Çakmak (55) and his relative Salih Ç. (28) argued in the center of Birecik due to a long-standing land dispute. The parties who came to the rural neighborhood explained the incident to the family elders.
FORMER AGRICULTURAL CHAMBER PRESIDENT LOST HIS LIFE
Mehmet Hıdır Çakmak wanted to go to the other party's house to prevent the incident from escalating. Allegedly, the other party members, seeing Çakmak arrive, opened fire and shot Mehmet Hıdır Çakmak. Çakmak, who was seriously injured, lost his life despite all the interventions at Birecik State Hospital.
3 PEOPLE DETAINED
Gendarmerie teams that went to the neighborhood detained Zekeriya Ç., Salih Ç., and Mehmet Ç., who were identified as being involved in the incident.
It was learned that an investigation is underway to determine who shot and killed Mehmet Hıdır Çakmak. The investigation regarding the incident is ongoing.
