Having lived through a century, Gül, who has 7 children and 20 grandchildren, spends her time resting at home and knitting. Ömer Faruk Ergün, the Provincial Director of Family and Social Services in Elazığ, and the accompanying institution staff visited Gül at her home with a cake that read "Our Republic and our aunt Nazife are 102 years old" to celebrate the 102nd anniversary of the Republic. While blowing out the candles on the cake, Nazife Gül wished for a home for her son with whom she lives.
"I CALL OUT TO OUR YOUNG PEOPLE, DO NOT STRAY FROM THE RIGHT PATH"
Nazife Gül stated that she lost her husband years ago but is in good health despite her advancing age. She recounted that in the past, they celebrated both national and religious holidays more enthusiastically and joyfully, saying, "Holidays were very beautiful; we would watch and applaud the soldiers, have fun, and sing marches. We love our homeland very much. May God protect our soldiers, and let us all protect our homeland together. I call out to our young people, take care of our homeland, and do not stray from the right path." Gül explained that she could not go to school due to the conditions of that time.
"MY MOTHER WAS SAD BECAUSE SHE COULDN'T READ"
Mehmet Gül (74), Nazife Gül's son, also expressed that his mother is full of joy for life and always tries to bring happiness and joy to the people around her. He shared that his mother's greatest sadness was not being able to go to school, stating:
"When we went to the Republic Day ceremonies, my mother would feel very excited when she saw the schoolchildren and soldiers. She was sad because she couldn't read. She would tell us, 'Study.' She always loved and respected those who read. She would say, 'Reading people are enlightened.' Because she couldn't read herself, she always advised us to study. She would say, 'I lost my parents at a young age, I grew up in my uncle's care.'
"WE CELEBRATE THE 102ND ANNIVERSARY OF OUR REPUBLIC WITH JOY"
Ergün, the Provincial Director of Family and Social Services, also expressed that they celebrate the 102nd anniversary of the Republic with pride and honor. Noting that Nazife Gül is also 102 years old, Ergün stated that they wanted to celebrate this meaningful day with Nazife aunt, who is the same age as the Republic.
Ergün expressed that their visit also made the Gül family happy, saying, "We celebrate the 102nd anniversary of the establishment of our Republic with enthusiasm and joy. We are proud of this. On this occasion, I commemorate with gratitude and mercy our martyrs, especially Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, who left this beautiful homeland to us, and I wish long lives to our living veterans. I also celebrate the 102nd birthday of our aunt Nazife, wishing her healthy, peaceful, and happy years." he said.
