Greek singer Despina Vandi refused to go on stage when she saw the Turkish flag and Ataturk poster in the area where she was supposed to perform in Cesme, Izmir. After the scandal, the concert of the Greek singer was cancelled. The audience who attended the concert went on stage and sang the Izmir March. Cesme Mayor Lal Denizli stated, "No power can attempt to take down our flag or Ataturk's poster. They cannot even think about it. The lady should immediately leave the boundaries of this city."
The concert of Greek singer Despina Vandi, which was supposed to take place in the Çeşme district of Izmir, was canceled allegedly due to her request to remove the Turkish flag and Atatürk poster from the stage.
An educational concert was organized by the Turkish Education Foundation Izmir Branch at the Çeşme Open Air Theater.
Despina Vandi, who was supposed to perform at the theater filled with audience, did not appear on stage despite the wait. Gülnur Sonbayraktar, the President of the Izmir Branch of the Foundation, made a statement later, saying that the artist could not perform at the concert due to unforeseen reasons and that tickets could be refunded to those who wanted.

After the TEV choir, which was planned to share the stage with Despina Vandi, performed the İzmir March, the audience also accompanied the march. Lal Denizli, the Mayor of Çeşme, who took the stage, said that they supported the concert for the benefit of education as the municipality, but they received information that Despina Vandi did not want to go on stage.
Denizli said, "Because she wanted the Turkish flag and Atatürk's poster to be taken down. Do not boo, I think that even a person who will tire these beautiful voices does not exist. We have sacrificed many martyrs to win these lands, and we are people who always believe in brotherhood and eternal friendship, and in the victory of this belief."

Denizli expressed his hope that what happened would be a lesson for the Greek singer, saying, "No force can attempt to remove our flag or Atatürk's poster. They cannot even think about it. I hope that the lady leaves the boundaries of this city immediately. With calmness and tranquility. But I hope that she never even thinks about removing the flag of any country she visits again, a flag that was obtained with blood and became a symbol of many homeland sons and daughters buried there. I hope this becomes a historical lesson for her." After the speech, the concert continued with the songs performed by the TEV choir.
