In the Altındağ district of Ankara, grocery store owners stated that citizens are even writing down basic food items on credit and that they are selling baby diapers individually because they cannot afford to buy a pack.

"I SELL BABY DIAPERS INDIVIDUALLY"

Vasfiye Dağıstan, a grocer originally from Hatay who has been living in Ankara for 25 years, said, "I sell one baby diaper for 7.5 lira. No one can buy a pack. I buy one pack of diapers and sell them individually. If there is money, I take it; if there is no money, I still give it. What can we do? Some poor people come here and buy 2 boiled eggs. I feel sorry for people, so I write it down on credit. People say they have no money, so I write it down on credit." Grocer Dağıstan mentioned that he sells 165 grams of cheese for 33 TL.

"WE EVEN WRITE BREAD, PASTA, AND EGGS ON CREDIT"

Tuncay Kıvanç, 65, who has been running a grocery store for 40 years, pointed out that people are writing down bread, pasta, and eggs on credit, saying, "When they are in a difficult situation, they write it down on credit. There is an average of 15-20 thousand lira in debts written down on credit. Right now, we are not making any money at the grocery store. We are barely managing. Business was good before." Another grocer said, "You see, there are those who buy a block of cheese and those who ask for 50-100 lira on credit. We are not making any money anyway. There are those who write down cheese on credit. Generally, we write down food items on credit."

"I CANNOT FILL MY STOMACH"

Bayram Alyurt, who stated that he is retired from the airlines, lamented, "I receive a salary of 23 thousand lira, but I cannot fill my stomach."
