In a helicopter crash in New York, Agustin Escobar, a senior executive at Siemens, his wife Merce Camprubi Montal, and their three children lost their lives. The accident occurred while they were taking a helicopter tour to see the Statue of Liberty to celebrate one of the children's birthdays.

According to Catalan radio station RAC1, the family had rented the helicopter tour to see the Statue of Liberty for one of the children's birthdays. It was not specified which child's birthday was being celebrated.



The accident occurred around 3:15 PM. Witnesses reported that the Bell 206L-4 LongRanger IV helicopter suddenly disintegrated in the air and fell into the Hudson River. Four people died at the scene, while two others died after being taken to the hospital.



Recent photos shared on the New York Helicopter Tours company's website show the family happily posing in front of the helicopter before the tour. The cause of the accident has not yet been officially announced.



The Spanish family had come to New York from Barcelona to spend their vacation, and the accident occurred in the early hours of the day they arrived in the city.



Agustin Escobar was a businessman with 25 years of experience and had been appointed as the Global CEO of Railway Infrastructure at Siemens Mobility in October. His wife, Merce Camprubi Montal, was working as a global commercialization manager at Siemens Energy in Barcelona.



Montal was also a relative of two former presidents of the famous football club Barcelona. She was the great-granddaughter of Augusti Montal Galobart, who served as club president from 1946 to 1952, and the granddaughter of Augusti Montal Costa, who served from 1969 to 1977. Costa is known for bringing legendary footballer Johan Cruyff to Barcelona.
