An incident in the Nottinghamshire region of England highlighted the terrifying extent of domestic violence. 28-year-old Rosie Niessen was attacked by her ex-boyfriend Simon Scrimshaw as she was leaving her home to go to work. Hearing Rosie's screams, her father rushed to help, but he was also stabbed while trying to confront the attacker.
The incident that took place in Nottinghamshire, England, once again demonstrated how horrific domestic violence can become.
28-year-old prison officer Rosie Niessen was attacked by her ex-boyfriend Simon Scrimshaw as she left her home to go to work in the morning. The 50-year-old man was hiding in the bushes in front of the young woman's house, waiting in ambush.
Scrimshaw was wearing a ski mask to conceal his face. As Rosie walked down the entrance path to her home, he ran up behind her, caught her, and attempted to cut her throat with a box cutter. At that moment, Rosie's screams of "What are you doing?", "Stop, help!" were heard.
Rosie fought back with all her strength to protect herself. During this struggle, she sustained deep cuts to her throat, face, and hands. Hearing his daughter's screams, her father Roberto rushed to help and jumped on the attacker. However, Scrimshaw also stabbed him in the leg. Roberto's wound was closed with 50 stitches.
As the attacker fled the scene, a passerby immediately called the police and an ambulance. Rosie and her father were taken to the hospital. Doctors considered the young woman's survival to be a great chance.
The police quickly apprehended Scrimshaw.
Rosie and the attacker had met in 2017, had a troubled relationship for years, and had separated in 2022. During this time, they had a daughter. The young woman had previously stated that her ex-boyfriend had harassed her and even choked her. Just two days after the incident, they were scheduled to appear in court, and Rosie was planning to obtain a restraining order.
Rosie described her experience as follows:
"I heard the bushes rustling, and then suddenly he attacked me. Instinctively, I tried to protect my neck. If I hadn't defended myself at that moment, I might not be alive today. I was covered in blood, and the doctors said my chances of survival were very low."
After the attack, Rosie had to quit her job and suffered severe physical and psychological injuries. The young woman said of her ex-boyfriend, "He took everything from me; he is a complete monster."
