An 8-month pregnant visually impaired woman in Samsun fell into an open manhole. Her husband, Emrah Dalgıç, who was also injured in the incident, recounted the events, saying, "The employees of the company came to us and asked, 'Why did you pass through here?' I said, 'Can't you see? We are coming from here, we are visually impaired. Can't you warn us?'"
The English teacher who fell into an open sewer while walking on the road in Atakum district of Samsun, spoke about his visually impaired wife, Gülderen Durna Dalgıç, who is 8 months pregnant.
Dalgıç, who said he lost his vision in a traffic accident 10 years ago, said, "I am completely visually impaired. We were going to the left towards the tram after leaving the house. We were together with my wife to get her ID card. My wife had a cane in her hand, and I had a cane in my hand too. We went a little further. In other words, the incident happened very close to our house. When my wife threw the cane to the right and stepped her foot to the left, she suddenly fell. I held my wife at that moment. I was already holding her arm. I didn't let go. She fell directly into the open sewer. I also hit my head on the sewer cover face down. The company's employees said there were barriers. They came to us and said, 'Why did you pass through here?' I said, 'Can't you see us, we are coming from here, we are visually impaired. Can't you warn us?' Of course, I also got injured at that moment. I said, 'Please let's get my wife out.' We got my wife out," he said.
"NO SAFETY MEASURES WERE TAKEN AT ALL"
Dalgıç, who said his wife is 8 months pregnant, said, "We got my wife out of there in great fear. I was covered in blood. We waited for the ambulance to arrive. When the ambulance arrived, I stated that I was filing a complaint and that I would not go anywhere with the ambulance until the police arrived. These kinds of incidents happen frequently in our country. Do we have to wait for someone to lose their life to prevent them? Do we have to give our lives to take precautions? Some news agencies have claimed that security measures were taken. No safety measures were taken at all. Please, I want my statements to be published clearly without being cut off. I will not give up on this case in any way. I will not give up on this case, no matter what the outcome, in order to prevent harm to anyone," he said.
"THE BABY'S HEARTBEAT SOMETIMES DECREASES"
Dalgıç also provided information about the current condition of his wife and baby, saying, "She is currently lying in the delivery room. The heartbeat of our baby is being monitored. The heartbeat decreases from time to time. If this continues, they say she will be delivered by cesarean section. We don't know, we are scared. I want my wife and child to recover their health as soon as possible," he said.
Ufuk Gürbüz, the President of the Samsun Branch of the Turkish Federation of the Blind, said they will follow the matter to the end and continue the fight.
