In a statement made by the police, it was noted that during a demonstration by the Verdi labor union, a vehicle drove into a crowd, resulting in 28 injuries, 2 of which were serious. The statement mentioned that the situation was under control and there was no danger to local residents.
THE ATTACKER TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IS OF AFGHAN NATIONALITY
In the statement, it was expressed that the driver approached the demonstrators from behind and fired a shot into the air to stop the speeding vehicle, and it was reported that the driver was later taken into custody. Bavaria's Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann announced that the detained driver is a 24-year-old asylum seeker of Afghan origin. Herrmann stated that this individual had a criminal record for previous offenses such as drug-related crimes and theft.

Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder stated in a press conference that the incident is likely to be an attack. Söder said, "Hearing that someone has driven a car into a crowd of people is, in a word, horrifying. Munich Mayor Dieter Reiter also stated in a press release: "The police chief just informed me that a vehicle was driven into a group of people, and unfortunately, many people, including children, were injured. I am in deep shock. My heart is with the injured. The police have taken the driver of the vehicle into custody, but the exact circumstances are still unclear."
