In the village of Kırıklı in Gümüşhane, free iftar is offered to passersby during Ramadan for 22 years. The tradition is continued under the leadership of the village headman, Fikret Bulut.
The tradition of breaking the fast for passersby during Ramadan, which started 22 years ago in a village in Gümüşhane, continues.
A free iftar program was initiated 22 years ago by the then-mukhtar Alim Aşkın in Kırıklı village, which is connected to the center. This year, the tradition was also upheld in the village located at the 24th kilometer of the Gümüşhane-Erzincan highway, at the Gümüşhane-Kelkit-Köse junction.
THEY BREAK THE FAST FOR PASSERSBY
As part of the program, meals were offered to the drivers and passengers of the stopped vehicles. Village mukhtar Fikret Bulut told reporters that the tradition of breaking the fast, which started nearly a quarter of a century ago, will continue.
Providing information about the tradition, Bulut said, "Our late teacher Alim saw a truck driver breaking his fast with bread and cheese and spoke with the villagers. This is how our tradition begins. It has continued to this day."
"WE REPRESENT THE TRADITION"
Bulut stated that the tradition continues with the support of volunteer people, saying, "We also represent them here. May God be pleased with all of them."
"I WAS VERY HAPPY"
Celal Torun, who came to the village for iftar, recounted that three years ago, his son was stopped by the village mukhtar while passing through Kırıklı village, saying, "When I called my son, he said he was having iftar in Kırıklı village. I was very happy. May God have mercy on those who started this tradition and those who caused it. May their place be paradise."
Driver Sezgin Yüksel also shared that he was stopped for iftar while traveling from Tokat to Trabzon, stating, "I was going to continue on my way. My mukhtar cut me off. It was a surprise for me. May God be pleased with him."
