In the Çatak district of Van, citizens are accessing houses and barns buried under snow by passing through tunnels they have dug in the snow.

The heavy snowfall and blizzard affecting Çatak have brought life to a standstill, especially in the higher elevations. In the villages connected to the district, the snow depth has exceeded meters, completely burying single-story houses.

ENTRANCE TO HOUSES THROUGH SNOW TUNNELS

As the snow level rises, access to homes is provided through snow tunnels opened by the citizens themselves. Reyhan Tuci, who lives in Elmacı village, connected to the Çatak district center, stated that they had to use the tunnels they dug to reach their homes and barns due to the heavy snow. Tuci mentioned that they pass through the snow tunnel to carry feed to their animals and expressed that they are trying to continue livestock farming despite the difficulties they face.
