On his return from a visit to Ethiopia, Erdoğan gave a striking response to a question posed by journalists on the plane regarding the issue: "You have been making significant statements about the future of our country for many years by saying 'Strong family, strong population.' Sir, have the family planning policies implemented in the past had an impact on the decline and aging of this population? Support is being provided for strengthening families; could there be new supports?"
