The moment Labour MP Mike Amesbury punched a voter was captured on security cameras in England. The incident occurred at 2:15 AM in the town of Frodsham in the Cheshire region.
In footage obtained by the Daily Mail, the 55-year-old MP Amesbury is seen suddenly attacking a man with his left fist after arguing with him. The MP attempted to hit the man six more times as he fell to the ground before being pulled away by bystanders.
During the fight, Amesbury shouted, "You will never threaten me again," and identified himself as the local MP, which was recorded by people at the scene on their mobile phones. A woman reacted by saying, "You will never be an MP again after tonight."
Amesbury, who has been an MP since 2017 and served in the Labour Party's shadow cabinet for a time, defended himself in a statement after the incident: "I was threatened on the street after going out with my friends, and I got involved in an incident. I reported the situation to the police."
The incident has raised concerns for the party leadership as the Labour Party prepares to announce its first budget in 14 years. A police investigation is ongoing.
