The mysterious four days of Ece Gürel, who got lost in Belgrad Forest and died from hypothermia, remain unresolved. Hale Nur Özen, who admitted to providing "witchcraft and sorcery" training to the young woman, stated in her testimony that Ece Gürel had been experiencing excessive emotional reactions for the past 2-3 months and was attributing meaning to many things. The father, on the other hand, reacted to the witchcraft allegations by asking, "Can a witch be fasting?"
After 4 days in Istanbul, Ece Gürel, who was found alive in the Belgrad Forest where she went missing, was reported to have died due to hypothermia and complications related to exposure to extreme cold, according to the preliminary autopsy. The reasons for her visit to the forest remain shrouded in mystery.
DIED WITH SECRETS What Ece Gürel experienced during her 4 days in the forest has become a topic of curiosity. It was claimed that Ece Gürel had a dispute related to her workplace in recent days and resigned due to her low morale. Additionally, her social media posts revealed her interest in astrology and her involvement in traditional practices such as tarot and lead casting. It was suggested that Ece Gürel went to the forest for sound meditation. It also emerged that Gürel had received training in "witchcraft and sorcery." The fact that her phone and some of her clothes were found folded in the forest raised the possibility that she may have committed suicide.
TEACHER WHO GAVE WITCHCRAFT TRAINING DETAINED AND RELEASED Following the allegations of "witchcraft and sorcery" training, her teacher Hale Nur Özen was detained. Under the instruction of the Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, Özen was taken into custody by police teams on charges of "spreading misleading information to the public with the intent to create concern, fear, or panic, and qualified fraud" regarding the country's internal and external security, public order, and general health. Özen was released under judicial control by the court.
STATEMENT FROM THE PERSON WHO GAVE WITCHCRAFT TRAINING TO ECE GÜREL CNN Türk reporter Merve Tokaz provided information regarding the investigation into Ece Gürel's death. Merve Tokaz's statements are as follows:
There is an ongoing investigation into the suspicious death of Ece Gürel. In this investigation, a detention order was issued against Hale Nur Özen, who is alleged to have provided "witchcraft training" to Ece Gürel, on charges of "publicly disseminating misleading information," "qualified fraud," and "violating the Tax Procedure Law." After the proceedings, Hale Nur Özen was released with a travel ban. Hale Nur Özen stated that she had known Ece Gürel for 1.5-2 years and had provided her with online training. She mentioned that Ece specifically received training from her under the guise of witchcraft and that Ece had undergone similar training before. Hale Nur Özen also noted that Ece Gürel had been experiencing excessive emotional reactions in the last 2-3 months, attributing it to an obsessive period where she assigned meaning to many things. Hale Nur Özen denied the allegations of qualified fraud related to Ece's death, stating that she had no connection to it and that she only provided online training.
FATHER PROTESTED: CAN A FASTING WITCH EXIST? Ece Gürel's father, Muharrem Koçoğlu, spoke about the allegations regarding his daughter's witchcraft training. Speaking on Müge Anlı's program on ATV, Ece Gürel's father reacted to the allegations of witchcraft training. The grieving father Gürel, who cried during the live broadcast, said, "We know she took astrology classes. There is no such thing as witchcraft training. My daughter was fasting. Can a fasting witch exist? There is no place for such nonsense. My daughter never had such a thought. These are very painful accusations. How can they say this to a grieving person? Shame on them. This is completely unrelated. I have always supported my daughter. There is absolutely no such thing. If there were, my daughter would have told me. It has been 3-4 months since she took astrology training. My daughter would never even think of such a thing. They should look up astrology and see what it is. I will pursue this matter to the end. I have told you everything."
