The residents of the Keçiören district in Ankara are in fear due to the risk of landslides. It has been claimed that the lack of sufficient precautions, despite the evacuation of some buildings, has led to loss of life.
On Wednesday, November 20, R.Ç., who lost his balance and fell into the abyss in the area at risk of landslides, lost his life. The residents, who are anxious due to the risk of landslides, claimed that the lack of sufficient precautions, despite the evacuation of some buildings, has resulted in loss of life.
"OUR FOUNDATION IS EMPTY"
Ömer Gökmeşe, who stated that he was located 5 meters away from the area where the landslide occurred, said, "After the landslide disaster, some buildings were evacuated, but the landslide continues. Our building is on the edge, and we are at risk every day. In this area, where there are three or four schools, children do not notice the danger in the dark. A friend of ours lost his life recently. There are 28 more buildings in this vicinity. We have no safety either. We need help for this. Our foundation is empty, and the ground is sliding every day. We need assistance, and these buildings need to be evacuated as soon as possible. There are no precautions here; we have been left to our own devices," he said.
"THERE ARE NO SAFETY MEASURES"
Yasin Bor, who lives in the area and pointed out that the evacuated buildings have become dangerous after the landslide, stated, "Some buildings were evacuated after the landslide that occurred 9 months ago. However, no arrangements have been made here. Cracks are increasing every day, and the ground continues to slide. Children and curious citizens come here. In fact, this place has become a frequent spot for drug addicts. It becomes very dangerous here in the evenings. There are no safety measures around. People live in fear, always on alert that something will happen. Curious citizens come, which poses a danger for them as well. This place has become a haven for drug addicts," he said.
CALL TO AUTHORITIES
A neighborhood resident, who reported losing his childhood friend, said, "My childhood friend lost his life due to the inadequacy and negligence here. Our brother already had vision loss; he could see a little weak. He fell off this cliff in the dark of night and lost his life. We want sufficient precautions here. The authorities need to urgently address this issue," he expressed.
