Earthquake survivors living in the Uzunkavak neighborhood of Reyhanlı district in Hatay went to a referendum to connect to the nearby Kumlu district, which is 3 kilometers away, due to the necessity of traveling 30 kilometers for official procedures. Out of 780 voters in the neighborhood, 510 went to the polls, and the decision to connect the neighborhood to Kumlu was made with 480 "Yes" votes. The decision, approved by the Kumlu Municipal Council, was officially enacted after being published in the Official Gazette dated November 21, 2025.

THEY WANTED TO CONNECT TO THE DISTRICT 3 KILOMETERS AWAY
In Uzunkavak Neighborhood, where earthquake victims live, citizens preferred to connect to the Kumlu district, which is 3 kilometers away, due to the 30 kilometers they had to travel for their official business.
510 PEOPLE VOTED
After applications made to the Hatay Governorship, a referendum was held in the neighborhood in recent months. Out of a total of 780 voters in the neighborhood, 510 people went to the polls to cast their votes.
THE DISTRICT'S BOUNDARY CHANGED AFTER 80 YEARS
As a result of the counts, it was decided that Uzunkavak Neighborhood would be connected to the Kumlu district with 480 "Yes" votes. After the referendum, when the Kumlu Municipal Council also approved the inclusion of Uzunkavak into the district, the district's boundary changed after 80 years.
DECISION IN THE OFFICIAL GAZETTE
With the decision numbered 10619 published in the Official Gazette on November 21, 2025, Uzunkavak Neighborhood was officially connected to the Kumlu district.
