A heartbreaking incident in Peru once again highlighted how deep the bond between humans and animals can be. Following the death of a man named Jacinto, who had been ill for a long time, the behavior of his loyal dog Crispín during the funeral moved millions on social media.
The footage shared by Jacinto's cousin shows moments during the funeral when the small dog Crispín, unable to understand why his owner was being buried, tries to dig at the grave. The video shared on TikTok quickly went viral, garnering 5.4 million views.
In the footage, cemetery workers are seen covering Jacinto's coffin with concrete slabs, while Crispín wanders around looking confused. Suddenly, the dog jumps onto the concrete slabs and begins to search for his owner's scent. Even after the grave is completely covered, Crispín persistently digs at the soil, even creating a small hole next to the grave to stick his head inside.
Crispín, who never left Jacinto's side throughout his illness, was even at his owner's bedside during his final moments. A note in the video states, "Crispín didn't understand why my cousin was underground and wanted to go with him. Thank you for accompanying him until the end, Crispín."
Experts indicate that animals, especially those who have lived with their owners for a long time, feel the loss deeply and can grieve. Crispín's story has been recorded as one of countless examples showing how strong the loyalty and love of animals can be.
