The mandatory evacuation process for military families around the British base Akrotiri in the Greek Cypriot Administration, which was hit by a drone following attacks by the US and Israel on Iran, has been extended until March 13. Greek Cypriot civilians are also waiting in the evacuation process that began last week due to the drone strike.

It has been reported that the mandatory evacuation process for the British bases located in the Greek Cypriot Administration (GCA) and the military families in the surrounding area has been extended.

EVACUATION PROCESS EXTENDED

According to news in the Greek press, the mandatory evacuation process for British families related to soldiers in and around the UK sovereign base of Akrotiri (Ağrotur) in GCA has been extended until Friday, March 13.

Last week, it was decided that military families in the base areas would be evacuated for a week due to a drone crash at Akrotiri.

GREEK CIVILIANS ALSO AWAIT EVACUATION

On the other hand, Greeks in the civilian settlements near the Akrotiri base in Limassol and Paphos are also awaiting mandatory evacuation, but this process has not yet been carried out.

The Fileleftheros newspaper, which publishes in GCA, reported that the mandatory evacuation decision covers 280 people from British families living in the base area and Greek civilian residents of the region, and it is expected that the Greek Ministry of Interior will also decide to extend the mandatory evacuation process for Greeks living in the area.

The Greek Politis newspaper also pointed out that the shelters belonging to the Civil Defense Organization are in very poor condition, claiming that the extension of the evacuation process is related to the fact that most shelters are being used as storage.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Last week, non-essential personnel were evacuated from the UK sovereign base of Akrotiri in GCA due to a drone crash, and GCA closed schools in the area, sending some civilians to the camps of the Greek National Guard.
