Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu stated in a written statement that the "Melodic Road" application, carried out by the General Directorate of Highways, has been implemented for the first time in Turkey in the Nallıhan district of Ankara.
"POCKETS AND MARKINGS WILL CREATE A MUSICAL MELODY"
Uraloğlu expressed that the Melodic Road application is based on the principle of producing vibrations and sounds during the passage of vehicles, thanks to markings or pockets placed at regular intervals on the road surface. Minister Uraloğlu said, "These pockets or markings are designed to create a musical melody when vehicles pass at a certain speed. Each pocket or marking on the surface is positioned to give a note at a different frequency. When the driver travels at a constant speed, the vibrations and sounds produced combine to allow the targeted melody to be heard."
MOZART'S TURKISH MARCH WILL PLAY ON THE ROADS OF ANKARA
Minister Uraloğlu stated that the application has been completed at the 21st kilometer of the Nallıhan-Beypazarı State Road, located in the Eymir village area, which is under the responsibility of the 4th Regional Directorate of Highways (Ankara). Noting that the application was implemented at a distance that would not affect the Nallıhan Davutoğlan Wildlife Development Area, Uraloğlu said, "Drivers can clearly hear Mozart's Turkish March while traveling at a certain speed."
THE 2ND STAGE WILL BE ON THE ANKARA-ESKİŞEHİR ROAD
Uraloğlu announced that the works for the 2nd stage of the Melodic Road application have started on May 17, 2025, at the 37th kilometer of the Ankara-Eskişehir State Road, located at the Sivrihisar exit in the Kertek area. Noting that complaints have increased in areas close to settlements in other countries where similar applications have been made due to noise, Minister Uraloğlu stated, "For this reason, we prefer to carry out the applications away from residential areas."
"CONSTANT SPEED AND PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF THE ROAD ARE IMPORTANT"
Uraloğlu conveyed that certain technical criteria must be met for the Melodic Road system to yield the best results, stating, "It needs to be implemented on roads where vehicles can travel at an average constant speed of 100 kilometers per hour, where the road is flat, there are no structural defects, and the surface has a smooth coating. It is important that the Melodic Road application is carried out on roads with as low traffic volume as possible, especially where heavy vehicle traffic is minimal, to prevent it from wearing out quickly and losing its properties, and to ensure that the melody can be heard as clearly as possible."
