CAUSE OF EXPLOSION NOT YET DETERMINED
The incident occurred at Aves Energy Filling Facilities in Kazanlı Neighborhood, central Akdeniz district. According to information received, an explosion occurred in a fuel tank for reasons yet to be determined. During the explosion, Süleyman Güner (47), who was on top of the tank, fell from a height of approximately 20 meters onto a concrete floor. Despite all interventions at Toros State Hospital, where he was taken with serious injuries, Güner lost his life. Following the explosion, the facility's own teams initially intervened in the fire that broke out at the factory. As the flames quickly grew, Mersin Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department, AFAD, and police-affiliated TOMA vehicles were dispatched to the region. Additional firefighting teams were sent from Adana and Niğde to bring the fire under control. Support teams from various districts of Mersin were also directed to the area.
EXTINGUISHING EFFORTS WERE CARRIED OUT WITH DIFFICULTY DUE TO GASOLINE IN THE TANK
Due to the gasoline in the tank, extinguishing efforts were carried out with difficulty. In the evening hours, the fire was brought under control using a foam suppression method by smothering. While some teams left the area where cooling efforts continued intermittently, others remained on standby as a precaution.
