The details of the investigation that led to the suspension of Keskin Mayor Ekmel Cönger have emerged. While irregularities against tender regulations were identified in some procurement transactions carried out by Keskin Municipality in 2024, it was determined that a total of 1 million 203 thousand lira was transferred from the contractor company official's account to Mayor Cönger's account.

In the investigation conducted by the Keskin Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the municipality's purchases from the construction company named YTS were scrutinized. Examinations revealed that the transactions in question contained violations of tender regulations, and the company official sent a total of 1 million 203 thousand TL to the bank account of Mayor Ekmel Cönger.

MORE THAN 5 YEARS IN PRISON

Following the investigation, a public lawsuit was filed against Cönger for the crime of "accepting bribes." In the case heard at the Kırıkkale 1st Heavy Penal Court, the court sentenced Ekmel Cönger to 5 years, 2 months, and 15 days in prison under Article 252/2-1 of the Turkish Penal Code, with the decision issued on June 8, 2026.

MINISTRY SUSPENDED FROM DUTY

After the decision, the Ministry of Interior also took action. The Ministry suspended Ekmel Cönger from his duties as a temporary measure in accordance with Article 127 of the Constitution and Article 47 of the Municipality Law No. 5393.

Thus, the main justification for the suspension of the Keskin Mayor was cited as the allegations of irregularities in the tender process and the money flow of 1 million 203 thousand lira determined to have been transferred to his account.
