Hatice-Umut Kardeş's daughter, İkbal Kardeş, was diagnosed with SMA Type 1 at 18 days old in the Torbalı district of İzmir. A donation campaign approved by the governor's office was launched for İkbal's Zolgensma gene therapy. The Kardeş family sought support through social media for the required 1 million 819 thousand dollars for İkbal's treatment, receiving help from citizens and NGOs. While the campaign process was ongoing, a few days ago, images of father Umut Kardeş enjoying himself at a nightclub were shared on social media. The images led to criticism. "MY RIGHTS ARE NOT FOR YOU"Following the events, Umut Kardeş shared a video on social media explaining, "Those who saw what I did for my daughter saw it. From this point on, I am not in this world, but my rights are not for any of you." After his post, he was found shot in the head in his car in the Tepeköy neighborhood around 10:30 PM the day before yesterday. Kardeş was taken to a private hospital but could not be saved. "OUR PAIN IS VERY FRESH"Speaking to DHA after the incident, Hatice Kardeş expressed that her pain is very fresh. She stated that she went to her family in Adana with her daughter İkbal four months ago, saying, "I don't want to talk about Umut. Because our pain is still new. We buried my husband yesterday afternoon," she said. "MY CHILD IS FIGHTING DEATH"Kardeş noted that 1 million 819 thousand dollars is needed for İkbal's treatment, saying, "I am afraid that this situation will negatively affect the campaign. After all, my child is fighting death. She has a disease. She needs to go to Dubai as soon as possible to receive gene therapy. The donation campaign approved by the governor's office is ongoing," she said. "I DID NOT COME TO ADANA AFTER QUARRELING WITH MY HUSBAND"Kardeş stated that only 32% of İkbal's campaign has been completed, mentioning that the first governor's permission will expire in February, and said, "I was not separated from my husband. I did not come to Adana after quarreling with him. We had no argument. My sister stayed with me in İzmir for 20 days. When my sister returned, I had to return with her. Because İkbal did not allow me to speak while I was broadcasting. There was no one to take care of İkbal. I was alone at home. That's why I came to Adana. I wanted to return to İzmir, but my husband said, 'Don't go back,'" she explained. "HE PROBABLY COULDN'T SWALLOW HIS PRIDE"Kardeş stated that she saw the images on social media and called her husband to ask about them on the day of the incident, saying, "We last spoke during the day of the incident. I asked him about the images. He said, 'I am not myself, I don't know what I'm doing.' After that, we had no communication at all. The governor-approved account is a blocked account. There is money coming in, but there is no way to withdraw money. There are claims about the money thrown into the piggy bank, but I haven't seen it with my own eyes. I don't know. My husband has not been well lately. The process we are going through is not easy. None of us are in a good psychological state. Every time we look at our child, we feel like we are looking for the last time. This is a very difficult feeling. It is impossible not to have mental distress in this situation. My psychology is also in shambles, turned upside down. But Umut was probably affected by the images and couldn't swallow his pride. My daughter is with me. Our pain is great. Don't let İkbal's hand go. Our campaign continues. There is no access to the governor-approved account. There is no money withdrawal. Everyone should know this. İkbal should not be left to die," she said.
