TENSION RISES IN AFYONKARAHISAR MUNICIPAL COUNCIL
During the April council meeting of Afyonkarahisar Municipality, a debate erupted between AK Party and CHP members. While discussing the 2024 activity report, CHP Mayor Burcu Köksal handed over the chair to the 1st Vice President, CHP Council Member Kemal Demirkırkan, and sat next to the vice presidents. During the discussions, CHP member Mustafa Karanfil reacted to the criticisms of the activity report made by AK Party Council Member Mustafa Ak.
"ANYONE WHO DOESN'T PROVE OTHERWISE IS DISHONORABLE"
Karanfil, who accused AK Party members of constantly distorting issues and obstructing services, said, "You are always trying to create tension. You are in opposition because you do not see through the eyes of the people of Afyon, and the public has punished you for this. You handed out tenders to your supporters. We did not eat the rights of orphans, we did not spend a single penny." In response to Karanfil's words, AK Party member Mustafa Ak's statement, "Anyone who doesn't prove otherwise is dishonorable," escalated the debate.
"I'LL BREAK YOUR HAND, YOU RUDE GUY"
AK Party member Mahmut Ekici also got involved in the discussions. Following this, a debate began between Mayor Burcu Köksal, who stood up from her seat, and Mahmut Ekici. Mustafa Karanfil, holding a microphone, said to Ekici, "Don't be rude, you can't talk to the mayor, sit down. We are talking together here. You can't point your finger at the mayor, I'll break that finger of yours, you rude guy." Mayor Köksal replied to Ekici, "Sit down, you won't speak. Anything can be expected from you. Are you going to hit me?" During the discussions, some CHP council members reacted, claiming that Ekici was pointing his finger at Mayor Köksal. Ekici responded, "I wasn't the first to shout."
During the discussions, some council members from CHP and AK Party approached each other aggressively, while other council members intervened to calm the situation.
REQUEST FOR A WARNING PENALTY
Vice President Kemal Demirkırkan took the floor after the discussions and requested a warning penalty for AK Party member Mahmut Ekici. In the open vote held, the proposal to give a warning penalty to Ekici was accepted by a majority vote against the votes of AK Party and MHP members. Demirkırkan emphasized that the decorum of the council and respect for the mayor must be maintained. After the discussions, the council session continued.
