FIRE BROKE OUT AT A DEPTH OF 47 METERS
A fire broke out on February 17 when drilling work was carried out at a depth of 47 meters in the area at the intersection of Bedir Street and Ulus Avenue in Dumlupınar Neighborhood of Kartepe district. Upon notification, fire brigade, health, Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), natural gas distribution company, and police teams were dispatched to the scene.
ONE WORKER INJURED IN THE EXPLOSION
Teams that blocked access to the area surrounding the fire took security measures in the region. During a flash that occurred at that time, a worker who was slightly injured on his face was discharged after treatment at the hospital he was taken to.
AFAD, TPAO, TÜBİTAK TOOK SAMPLES
The day after the fire, experts from the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) and the natural gas distribution company, as well as teams from the Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) and the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK), arrived in the area. Firefighters controlled the fire with a fire blanket in the 26th hour; samples were taken and measurements were made by teams from AFAD, TPAO, TÜBİTAK, and the natural gas distribution company.
EXTINGUISHED AND REIGNITED
After approximately 1 hour of work, the fire brigade reignited the gas in a controlled manner. After the samples were examined in the laboratory, it was determined that the burning gas was methane. The teams are still waiting regarding the fire that has been ongoing for about 7 days.
