The United Nations (UN) General Assembly has adopted a resolution calling for the immediate withdrawal of all Russian troops from Ukraine.
VOTING ON UKRAINE IN THE UN
As the 3rd year of the Ukraine-Russia War passes, the UN General Assembly convened for an emergency session. During the session, a resolution prepared by Ukraine, which calls for "the immediate withdrawal of Russian forces to end the war," was put to a vote and supported by European Union (EU) countries.
RESOLUTION ADOPTED, US VOTED "NO"
In the vote at the General Assembly, Ukraine's resolution was adopted with 93 "yes" votes against 18 "no" votes. 65 countries abstained from voting. In the vote, the US and Russia voted "no" on the resolution, while Turkey was among the countries that voted "yes."
CALL FOR RUSSIA TO "WITHDRAW FROM UKRAINE"
The adopted resolution stated that the Russian occupation has been ongoing for three years and continues to have "devastating and long-lasting consequences" not only for Ukraine but also for other regions and global stability. The resolution, supported by EU countries, calls for an end to the ongoing war between the two countries and for Russia to completely withdraw from Ukraine's internationally recognized borders. The decisions made in the General Assembly do not have legal binding force.
