French President Emmanuel Macron congratulated Syrian President Ahmed al-Shara during a phone call for the liberation of the country from the Assad regime and invited him to Paris.
French President Emmanuel Macron had a phone conversation with Syrian President Ahmed al-Shara.
According to a statement from the Syrian Presidency, Macron congratulated al-Shara on assuming the presidency and the liberation of the country from the Assad regime, expressing his full support for the transition process in Syria.
INVITED TO PARIS
The French leader referred to efforts to lift sanctions on Syria and allow the country to grow and recover. In the conversation where the two leaders addressed security issues in Syria and the need for joint work to maintain security and stability in the country, Macron emphasized his support for the political process in Syria and the country's unity, independence, and territorial sovereignty, inviting al-Shara to Paris.
THANKED MACRON FOR HIS SUPPORT
Syrian President al-Shara thanked Macron for the meeting and for France's support to the Syrian people over the past 14 years. He stated that Syria would be a positive and active part of the region and the world, would share security concerns with its partners, and would focus on national interests such as Syria's stability, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. During the meeting, al-Shara mentioned the current challenges, such as the economic sanctions imposed on the Syrian people and the inability to complete the unity of Syrian territories. He concluded by referring to the developmental and national vision pursued by the new administration to ensure the welfare and urgent recovery of the Syrian people.
HAD VISITED ERDOGAN
Al-Shara visited Turkey on Tuesday, February 4, and met with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at Beştepe.
The two later spoke at a joint press conference.
