The number of deaths in Ankara due to counterfeit alcohol has risen to 38. The number of arrests in operations targeting those who produce and sell counterfeit alcohol has also increased to 19.
The number of people who died from counterfeit alcohol in Ankara has risen from 33 to 38. The person selling the counterfeit alcohol has been intubated.
According to a report by NTV, the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has initiated an investigation ex officio to identify those who produce and consume counterfeit alcohol. A contact tracing team has also been established.
The phones of those producing counterfeit alcohol have been seized by the prosecutor's office for examination. Efforts are underway to identify those who have communicated with these individuals and whether they consumed counterfeit alcohol.
According to the latest information, 19 people have been arrested as part of the investigation. The examination at the Forensic Medicine Institute is also ongoing.
70 PEOPLE DIED IN ISTANBUL
Between January 14 and February 6, 70 people died from counterfeit alcohol in Istanbul, and 150 people were hospitalized.
"190 INDIVIDUALS WERE ARRESTED"
Providing information about the efforts to combat counterfeit and illegal alcohol, Istanbul Governor Davut Gül stated:
"As part of the fight against counterfeit and illegal alcohol, 190 individuals were arrested, 11 of whom were detained, and 86,274 liters of counterfeit and illegal alcohol were seized. In our fight against fuel smuggling, 126,000 liters of illegal fuel were seized in 371 inspections. By preventing the release of all these illegal products into the market, a tax loss of 259 million lira was avoided."
