Developments in red meat prices are among Turkey's most important agenda items. On one hand, it is stated that efforts are being made to stabilize prices, while on the other hand, meat prices are rapidly increasing. This rise, which has continued during the month of Ramadan, has even doubled the inflation rate.
With the arrival of the month of Ramadan, there has been price volatility in many products in the market. While the discount implemented by the Meat and Milk Institution on meat prices has become a topic of discussion nationwide, the "RED MEAT MARKET IN RAMADAN MONTH 2025" report published by the National Red Meat Council (UKON) has reignited discussions about red meat.
"REASONABLE INCREASE"...
In UKON's report, it was stated, "As we predicted in the '2025 Ramadan Month Pre-Evaluation Report' published by our Council before the month of Ramadan, there has been no imbalance in supply and demand so far. In recent weeks, as can be seen in the graph we provided below, the prices of carcass beef have shown a moderate increase at reasonable levels in the two weeks before Ramadan and in the first week of Ramadan."
DOUBLE THE INFLATION IN MEAT PRICES
The published graph shows that meat prices rose again just before the month of Ramadan, and continued to rise with the start of Ramadan. The graph indicates that the price of red meat was 401.75 lira before Ramadan and increased to 419.43 lira in the first week of Ramadan. Thus, it was observed that meat prices increased by approximately 5% over a three-week period. In the latest inflation report published by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), the monthly inflation was realized at 2.27. With these figures, the increase in meat prices in just three weeks equaled double the announced monthly inflation rate.
