The obligation for new generation cash registers for card payments starts tomorrow!

14.11.2024 09:30

The use of next-generation cash register POS devices for payments with credit and debit cards will become mandatory starting tomorrow. However, it is stated that most banks have not yet prepared the infrastructure, which means that the tourism sector will be the most affected by this situation. There are calls to postpone the implementation of this regulation until the end of the year.

The Ministry of Treasury and Finance has made a decision regarding the nearly 2 million POS devices. That decision will come into effect starting tomorrow. Accordingly, all card payments will be mandatory to be made only with the new generation cash register POS devices. The ministry may impose penalties on banks and businesses that do not comply with this obligation.

TOURISM PROFESSIONALS WILL BE THE MOST AFFECTED GROUP BY THE NEW APPLICATION

Just before the new era of card payments, the fact that some banks' infrastructure for new generation cash register POS devices is not yet ready will affect the tourism sector the most. This is because it is stated that the infrastructures are not suitable for collecting payments in dollars and euros.

BANKS COULDN'T KEEP UP, REQUESTED A DELAY

A call has come from the business world to the ministry regarding the issue. Şekib Avdagiç, the President of the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ITO), requested that the new application be postponed until December 31, stating that they have communicated the situation to the Ministry of Treasury and Finance.

THE TOURISM SECTOR HAS ALSO REQUESTED A DELAY

Currently, hotels are among the groups that will be most affected by the application. Müberra Eresin, the President of the Turkish Hoteliers Association (TÜROB), also expresses the same request to prevent any grievances.
