'Sabi', the African spurred tortoise living in Antalya Natural Life Park, is the oldest member of the park. Sabi was delivered to the park in 2013 by a British family living in Alanya when she was 13 years old and weighed 24 kilograms. She is now 25 years old and weighs 37 kilograms. As a species that loves warm weather, Sabi receives artificial sunlight support in her special area during the winter months. SPECIAL CARE AND SUNLIGHT SUPPORTEnjoying the sun during the summer months in Antalya, Sabi spends the winter in her living area illuminated by UV light. The UV light used for Sabi not only meets her vitamin D needs but also supports bone development and helps treat skin diseases. Thanks to Antalya's sunny climate, Sabi spends a lot of time outside during the summer months, while she generally stays in her special room during the winter. BEHAVING ACCORDING TO THE TEMPERATUREProviding information about Sabi's habits, the Director of the Natural Life Park, Aygül Arsun, said, "Our African giant tortoise Sabi loves warm weather. Therefore, she has a special room prepared for her. In her room, she continues her life under artificial sunlight. During the winter months, she prefers not to go outside for 2-3 months. When the weather warms up, she comes out of her room and wanders in the garden." Aygül mentioned that Sabi last went outside on New Year's Day, stating, "Since New Year's, she hasn't wanted to go outside. She adjusts herself according to the temperature and goes out. During the summer months, she loves the heat, so she wanders in the garden and enters her pool."
