Nine-year-old Yiğit Kurt, who traveled to Istanbul to watch the Galatasaray - Tottenham match, tragically lost his life in a traffic accident. His family decided to donate Yiğit Kurt's organs. Yiğit's organs became a source of hope for four children.

9-year-old Yiğit Kurt, who was traveling from Bodrum to Istanbul with his father to follow the Galatasaray - Tottenham match that ended 3-2, lost his life in a traffic accident they had on the way. The family decided to donate Yiğit Kurt's organs.

TRAFFIC ACCIDENT

Serkan Kurt set off with his son Yiğit from Bodrum to the match at Ali Sami Yen Sports Complex RAMS Park Stadium on November 7. The father and son, who were injured in a traffic accident in Susurluk, were taken to the hospital. Yiğit, a fan of the yellow-red team, suffered brain death during the 5-day struggle for life while being treated at Balıkesir Atatürk City Hospital.

After the family's decision to donate organs, Yiğit's heart was transplanted to a child with congenital heart disease of the same age at Hacettepe University Hospital in Ankara, while his liver and kidneys were prepared to be transplanted to three children at Bursa Uludağ University Hospital.

Serkan Kurt, who was following the process at Balıkesir Atatürk City Hospital, told AA reporter that they experienced a major accident on the way to watch the match at the stadium with his son last week.

"IT'S A BEAUTIFUL FEELING TO GIVE HOPE TO OTHER CHILDREN"

Stating that his son was treated in Balıkesir and he was treated in hospitals in Susurluk, Kurt said, "I learned yesterday that my son had brain death. After that, we decided to donate his organs. His heart is beating, but it was beating with machines and medication. A decision needs to be made quickly, but for us, it was a long process. I talked to my wife, and in the end, it felt very beautiful that our son's heart and organs would give hope to other children. We put our hands on our hearts. We went to the intensive care unit and talked to our son. We said, 'This is what we think, son.' Believe me, if we had the chance to ask him, he would say, 'Don't think about this, just do it, dad.' I had a pure-hearted, beautiful child," he said.

"MY SON WOULD HAVE WANTED THIS"

Kurt emphasized that organ donation is a very different feeling that connects other people to life. Expressing that they would enable other families to hold on to life, Kurt said, "We have a funeral. Our son is gone, a piece of our soul is gone. We experienced what it means to die while living, but other families will have weddings today or tomorrow. They will be happy, it's their natural right. My son would have wanted this too; we did everything we could. I want at least one Galatasaray player to come to my son's funeral; I know my child will feel it, and I want them to come to the funeral," he said. Mother Pınar Kurt also shared that her son Yiğit gave all his money to the piggy bank of a child with SMA a week ago, saying he was very compassionate.

HIS LAST WISH IS FOR THE GALATASARAY COMMUNITY TO ATTEND THE FUNERAL

Kurt expressed that as a mother, her last wish is for the Galatasaray community to participate in the funeral ceremony in Bodrum tomorrow. Yiğit Kurt's funeral will be held after the funeral prayer at Bitez Mosque in Bodrum tomorrow at noon and will be buried at Bitez Cemetery.
