Özgür Özel purge at CHP! Removed from the site

News, press releases, speeches in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, and written statements from Özgür Özel’s term as chairman were removed from CHP’s official website. There is no content on the site from the approximately 3-year period between November 2023, when Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu left the chairmanship, and May 2026, when the absolute nullity ruling was issued.

While the absolute nullity ruling regarding CHP’s 38th Ordinary Congress awaits at the Court of Cassation, the change on the party’s official website drew attention. All content belonging to Özgür Özel’s term as chairman was removed from the site at “chp.org.tr”.

ABSOLUTE NULLITY RULING IS BEFORE THE COURT OF CASSATION

The absolute nullity ruling dated May 21, 2026, concerning CHP’s 38th Ordinary Congress held on November 4-5, 2023, is before the Court of Cassation. During this process, it was observed that the party’s official website did not include content belonging to the period from the congress at which Özel was elected chairman until the absolute nullity ruling.

On the site, across all tabs titled Parliamentary speeches, rally speeches, event speeches, press statements, written statements, social media posts, TV programs, interviews, receptions, news, congress speeches, and foreign speeches, it was determined that the content jumped from November 2023 to May 2026.

STATEMENTS BY DEPUTY CHAIRMEN ALSO REMOVED

In addition to Özel’s statements, the press statements of deputy chairmen published on the site for 3 years were also removed. Spokespersons’ press conferences, bulletins belonging to party administrators, parliamentary activities, reports, and photos were also among the content deleted from the site.

A STATEMENT HAD ALSO BEEN REMOVED IN SEPTEMBER

In September, a statement belonging to the press conference held by Özgür Özel at CHP Headquarters on March 18 had also been removed from CHP’s official website.
