MISSING FOR 17 YEARS, DECLARED 'DEAD' 12 YEARS AGO
According to news reports, police were called to the area due to the suspect's aggressive behavior when officials wanted to conduct an identity check.
With the intervention of the police teams, the person without identification documents was taken to the Bansko District Police Department. It was determined that the individual had been placed on the national and international wanted lists in 2008 and was declared dead by the court in 2013 due to being untraceable.
"HAS LIVED IN THE MOUNTAINS FOR YEARS"
Pirin National Park Director Rosen Banenski stated in a press release, "It appears that this person, identified as being from Ruse, has lived in the mountains in seclusion for years. Thanks to the park officials, his identity has now been established."
HOSTING WILD ANIMALS
The Pirin Mountains, located near the borders of Bulgaria with Greece and North Macedonia, have the country's second highest peak, reaching an altitude of 2,914 meters. The approximately 40,000-hectare area where the mountains are located was declared a national park and added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1983. Known for its glacial lakes, waterfalls, caves, and coniferous forests, Pirin National Park is also home to wild animals such as bears and wolves.
