A striking statement came from Ahmet Akın, the Mayor of Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality, who has long been rumored to switch to the AK Party. Akın said, "I am in my party, I am in the CHP. I recommend you listen to my speech at the opening of the municipal council meeting at 14:00."
"I REALLY CAN'T BELIEVE WHAT IS WRITTEN"
Ahmet Akın, recalling that he had previously made a statement, noted that he served as a member of parliament and party administrator in the CHP for three terms. Akın used the expression, "I really can't believe what is written."
HE GAVE A TIME AND MADE A CALL
In a statement to Halk TV, Akın emphasized that they won the local election in Balıkesir after 78 years, saying, "I have made statements many times. I served as a deputy in the CHP for three terms. I was the deputy chairman for six years. We won the metropolitan municipality after 78 years. Of course, I am a member of the Republican People's Party. I really can't believe what is written. We have a council meeting at 14:00. I will make a statement there. I recommend you watch."

Former AK Party Ağrı Mayor Savcı Sayan claimed on January 9 that Ahmet Akın had switched to the AK Party, sharing a post on social media saying, "Welcome to our midst." Ahmet Akın, however, denied the claim, stating that he was in Umrah.
ILICALI'S "I SPOKE ON THE PHONE" STATEMENT
In response to this statement, former AKP Deputy Mustafa Ilıcalı stated in a TV program that he spoke with Ahmet Akın on the phone and conveyed his regards to President Erdoğan.
