The Greek press reported that Israel is seriously concerned about the possibility of a "double front" that could emerge along the Turkey-Egypt line in the face of changing balances in the Eastern Mediterranean, and that this process has caused panic not only for Israel but also for Athens.
The Greek press has started to openly write about Israel's increasing concerns in the face of changing balances in the Eastern Mediterranean. The rapprochement between Turkey and Egypt is interpreted in Tel Aviv and Athens as a potential "strategic rupture."
The Greek newspaper Libre published a striking analysis indicating that Israel is focusing on long-term strategic scenarios that could emerge in the Eastern Mediterranean, beyond the ongoing attacks and blockade in Gaza. The report pointed out that the geopolitical balances in the region could change rapidly.
"ISRAEL IS GREATLY DISTURBED"
In the analysis published by Greek journalist Spyros Sideris, it was emphasized that Israel is particularly disturbed by the normalization between Turkey and Egypt. Sideris wrote that Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's recent statements regarding the increasing military capacity of the Egyptian army clearly reflect the unease in Tel Aviv.
"A POSSIBILITY OF STRATEGIC RUPTURE"
The report indicated that the reactivation of the Turkey-Egypt High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council is seen as an important breaking point. It was stated that the joint cooperation messages from President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Egyptian President Abdulfattah el-Sisi triggered fears in Israel that the balances in the Eastern Mediterranean could change fundamentally. Sideris conveyed that this process is evaluated in Tel Aviv as a "possibility of strategic rupture."
"DOUBLE FRONT" SCENARIO EMERGES
The analysis noted that military analysts, such as retired Israeli Brigadier General Amir Avivi, assess Turkey and Egypt as two organized armies in the region and draw attention to the possibility of a simultaneous conflict. It was recorded that the recent joint naval exercises are seen as concrete indicators of this scenario.
The report emphasized that these exercises carry not only a military but also a strong regional message. It was expressed that Turkey's modern fleet and rapid advancements in the defense industry signal "strategic autonomy" for Israel when combined with Egypt's land and naval forces.
ATHENS IS ALSO CLOSELY MONITORING THE PROCESS
The evaluation in Libre stated that Greece, like Israel, is carefully following the Turkey-Egypt cooperation. It was noted that a possible agreement could shake the maritime jurisdiction areas and energy-based balances established by Athens with Israel and France. The energy issues of Cyprus and the Eastern Mediterranean have made this rapprochement even more critical.
"WE MUST PREPARE" ADMISSION
In the final section of the analysis, it was expressed that Netanyahu's concerns stem not only from short-term military threats but also from the possibility of losing regional strategic superiority. Sideris shared the assessment that "the double front scenario that could emerge on the Turkey-Egypt line is causing panic for both Israel and Greece. Therefore, the view that preparations should be made for every possibility is coming to the forefront."
