A passenger plane en route from Japan to the Philippines declared an emergency after receiving a warning signal indicating a fire in the cargo compartment while flying over the Pacific coast. The aircraft made an emergency landing in Osaka, and passengers were evacuated using emergency slides. Two passengers were injured, and two runways were closed to air traffic due to the incident.
A passenger plane belonging to the US-based United Airlines, carrying 142 people including passengers and crew, took off from Narita Airport near Tokyo, heading to the Philippines, and made an emergency landing at Kansai Airport.
FIRE IN THE CARGO SECTION
According to information obtained from Kansai Airport management, the Boeing 737 aircraft on flight number 32 from Narita Airport to Mactan-Cebu International Airport in the Philippines received a warning signal indicating a fire in the cargo section approximately 1.5 hours after takeoff while flying over the Pacific coast.
PASSENGERS EVACUATED VIA SLIDE
In response, the aircraft declared an emergency and made an emergency landing at Kansai Airport in Osaka around 19:00 local time. Passengers were evacuated using emergency slides, and 2 passengers sustained minor injuries.
2 RUNWAYS CLOSED
It was learned that the Kansai Airport fire department did not conduct any firefighting operations, and 2 runways were temporarily closed to air traffic due to the incident. A detailed investigation into the incident has been initiated.
