A small child narrowly escaped death due to the poisonous oleander found among the plants gathered in a children's park in Bursa. The family immediately intervened upon seeing the child bring the plant to their mouth. The child was taken to the hospital where preventive treatment was administered.
The incident occurred in Soylular Children's Park located in the Sırameşeler neighborhood of the Osmangazi district in the center of Bursa. According to the information obtained, Özkan Aynak went to the park with his child and collected various plants. Among the plants collected to make a tree figure by 'collecting plants from the park' was the oleander flower, which is known to be poisonous, and it was brought home.
CHILD TOOK THE PLANT TO HIS MOUTH, FAMILY INTERVENED
Father Özkan Aynak, who noticed that the young baby at home had taken the plant to his mouth, immediately intervened and took the plant out of the child's mouth. The family, not wasting any time due to the potential risk of poisoning, went to the hospital, and when they mentioned that the plant was oleander, the medical team intervened quickly.
NEARLY ESCAPED DEATH
During the first intervention at the hospital, it was learned that the child was given intravenous treatment and activated charcoal treatment was applied due to the risk of poisoning. It was also reported that the doctors kept the intensive care unit on standby as a precaution against a possible complication. Özkan Aynak, who described the terrifying moments they experienced, stated that his child had escaped a great danger and called for precautions to be taken against poisonous plants found in park areas.

Father Özkan Aynak, who recounted the incident, said:
"We immediately noticed and intervened when our child took the plant to his mouth. When we went to the hospital and said that the plant was oleander, they immediately started treatment. We were very scared when we heard that the intensive care unit was being prepared. Thank God, he is fine now. However, this situation can happen to anyone. There are poisonous plants in parks that children can reach. We wanted to announce this so that other families do not experience the same fear."
Experts state that all parts of the oleander plant, including its flowers, leaves, and branches, are poisonous and pose a serious risk, especially for small children. They also emphasize that in such situations, it is essential to seek medical assistance without delay.
After the incident, the safety of the plants found in park areas has come back to the agenda, and it remains a question of whether the authorities will take any action regarding the issue.
