During his first official visit to Turkey, the President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Tufan Erhürman, visited Anıtkabir with his accompanying delegation. Erhürman later met with the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Numan Kurtulmuş, in the Parliament.
Erhürman paid his respects by laying a wreath at the mausoleum of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and then took a commemorative photo with his delegation. Moving on to the National Pact Tower, Erhürman signed the Anıtkabir Special Book.
ERHÜRMAN SIGNED THE ANITKABİR SPECIAL BOOK Erhürman wrote the following in the book:
"Dear Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, drawing strength from your leadership, which is an inspiration in the struggle for the existence of the Turkish Cypriot people, I am deeply honored and proud to be here today as the 6th President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. The Turkish Cypriot people's commitment to the spiritual legacy you left behind continues with unwavering faith.
The stance you exhibited while leading the War of Independence, the Republic you established, and the principles and revolutions you bequeathed to us have been guiding not only for the citizens of the Republic of Turkey but also for the Turkish Cypriot people. You are a leader who inspires not only your own people but also many others, especially us Turkish Cypriots, with your thoughts that reach beyond the ages.
The love for Atatürk and loyalty to your ideas are an inseparable part of the character of the Turkish Cypriot people. Even in the most difficult times, our people have maintained their resilience, inspired by you, and have continued their struggle for a contemporary, free, and dignified life. Today, as a people nourished by the values of the Republic you founded, we reaffirm our determination to elevate our country to the level of contemporary civilizations.
The Turkish Cypriot people will continue to advance with this awareness, always prioritizing contemporary values, production, education, culture, and morality. Your legacy is not only the common enlightenment heritage of a nation but of humanity.
In front of your sacred memory, I bow with respect, love, and endless gratitude. May your soul rest in peace."
KURTULMUŞ AND ERHÜRMAN MET The Speaker of the Grand National Assembly, Numan Kurtulmuş, met with Tufan Erhürman in the Parliament. Upon arriving at the Parliament, Kurtulmuş greeted Erhürman and shook hands in front of the flags of Turkey and the TRNC. Later, Kurtulmuş and Erhürman held a private meeting.
During the meeting, Speaker Kurtulmuş expressed his sorrow over the martyrdom of heroic Mehmetçiks due to the crash of a military cargo plane at the Azerbaijan-Georgia border, wishing mercy from Allah for the martyrs and patience for their families and the Turkish nation.
Kurtulmuş emphasized the importance of Erhürman’s first official visit to Turkey and expressed his pleasure in hosting him in the Parliament.
Congratulating Erhürman on the election results and wishing him success in his duties, Kurtulmuş stressed that Turkey and the TRNC will continue to advocate for the rightful cause of the Turkish people on the island in all international platforms.
Kurtulmuş stated that the relations between the two countries are exceptional and noted that these relations have matured and reached this point over time.
Kurtulmuş mentioned that the TRNC has gone through many hardships to become an important state and has faced great oppressions, acknowledging that they are aware of how the Turkish Cypriot people faced the threat of extinction and that unfortunately, recent history is filled with painful chapters for the Turkish Cypriots.
"OUR PRIORITY IS TO PROMOTE THE STRENGTH OF THE TRNC IN THE INTERNATIONAL ARENA" Kurtulmuş emphasized that the maximalist demands to turn Cyprus into an island completely devoid of Turks, within the framework of expansionist ENOSIS plans, have now been revealed as invalid, continuing his remarks as follows:
"During this process, both the Turkish Cypriots and the Republic of Turkey have fought constructively for the coexistence of the two communities after the liberation of the Turkish Cypriots with our Cyprus Peace Operation. Despite having said 'Yes' to many plans, including the Annan Plan, unfortunately, the side that said 'No' has been rewarded. The Greek Cypriot Administration in the South has been accepted as a full member of the European Union and has always been pampered, always highlighted, and has been allowed to become a political pressure element over the Turkish Cypriots. However, thanks to great struggles and sacrifices, 50 years are now behind us. The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus has become a truly perfect state in all its aspects. Promoting the existence and strength of this state in the international arena is one of our most important priorities."
"WITHOUT TURKEY'S GUARANTEE, THE TRNC WOULD HAVE BECOME LIKE GAZA" Kurtulmuş stated that they always bring the rightful cause of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus to the agenda in all international platforms and strive for the recognition of Cyprus in the international arena, saying, "Although sufficient progress has not yet been made, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is now becoming a recognized state in the international arena compared to the past."```html
He said.
Kurtulmuş emphasized that there is no other way than a two-state solution in Cyprus and that it is possible to create an environment where both states can live in peace within their own national identities:
"The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and the Republic of Turkey have now gained the ability to act together perfectly, to the extent that even the term cooperation is insufficient in every field. There may be differences of opinion, there may be differences in political attitudes, but ultimately Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus will continue to walk side by side, arm in arm, in line with their common national goals. We have once again seen how important and vital Turkey's guarantorship in Cyprus is, especially in light of the recent developments in the region. Sometimes we say, if it weren't for Turkey's guarantorship, God forbid, perhaps the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus would have become a place like Gaza by now. The Republic of Turkey has not allowed this, and it will not allow it in the future. We will continue to support our rightful national cause with all our strength together with you for a strong and truly effective Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus to exist in the international arena."
"YOU HAVE ALSO SHOWN THE WORLD THAT YOU WILL WORK HAND IN HAND WITH TURKEY" Kurtulmuş pointed out that there is a very close relationship between the parliaments of the two countries, and that friendship groups are also working closely together.
Stating that beautiful works have been carried out within the parliaments of the countries with the understanding of "one nation, three states" with the participation of Azerbaijan in the last two years, Kurtulmuş emphasized that they will continue their struggle to make the TRNC a stronger and more capable country in every field.
Kurtulmuş wished success to Erhürman and his team in the new term, saying, "You have also shown the whole world in your first messages that you will work hand in hand with Turkey. I hope that we will also reap the fruits of this collaboration."
"OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH TURKEY IS SO SPECIAL THAT IT CANNOT BE COMPARED TO OTHER STATES" The President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Tufan Erhürman, also wished God's mercy on the soldiers who were martyred as a result of the military cargo plane crash on the Azerbaijan-Georgia border, and patience for their families and the Turkish nation.
Expressing that he is honored to be under the roof of the Gazi Parliament and to meet with the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Kurtulmuş, Erhürman stated, "The relations between the Republic of Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus are probably so special that they cannot be compared to the relations between any other two states. There is a very close interaction between the Grand National Assembly of Turkey and our Republic Assembly. We are in constant communication with our friendship groups."
Stating that the Turkish Cypriot people are fighting a great struggle for existence and will continue to do so, Erhürman said, "The relations between our Grand National Assembly of Turkey and our Republic Assembly will continue to be extremely valuable for us in terms of conveying these to the world. Your contributions are also extremely valuable for us in this regard."
In the visit, the Chairman of the Turkey-TRNC Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group and AK Party Konya Deputy Orhan Erdem and the TRNC Ambassador to Ankara İsmet Korukoğlu were also present.
