The Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ITO) Assembly has decided to increase bread prices. The maximum selling price for 200 grams of bread has been set at 15 TL. The price, which was 12.5 TL in December 2024, has been raised by 20 percent. The ceiling price for 1 kilogram of bread has been set at 75 TL.

The price of bread in Istanbul has increased. The Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ITO) Assembly has set the maximum selling price of 200 grams of bread at 15 TL.

ITO ASSEMBLY APPROVED THE TARIFF

The ITO Board of Directors presented the new bread tariff to be applied throughout Istanbul at the July meeting. According to the accepted decision; the maximum price for 200 grams of bread is set at 15 TL, while the ceiling price for 1 kilogram of bread is determined to be 75 TL.

It was noted that an additional 10% increase could be applied to this tariff, especially for the Adalar district. In this case, 200 grams of bread could be sold for up to 16.5 TL in Adalar.

GRAMMAGE FLEXIBILITY IS APPLIED IN TRADITIONAL OVEN BREADS

Selim Şimşek, Vice President of the ITO Bread, Flour, and Bakery Products Professional Committee, emphasized in a statement regarding the issue that the maximum price is an upper limit, stating, "Companies can sell at a lower price, but they cannot exceed the determined limit," he said.

Şimşek noted the following in his statement:

"Bread prices are calculated based on kilograms. If 1 kg of bread is 75 TL, then 200 grams of bread can be sold for 15 TL, and 240 grams of bread can be sold for 18 TL. Since producing 200 grams of bread in traditional ovens is difficult, 240-gram bread is generally preferred. This also brings about a price difference."

COST INCREASES HAVE BROUGHT PRICE INCREASE REQUESTS TO THE AGENDA

Recently, bakery operators in Istanbul have requested a reevaluation of prices, citing rising production costs as the reason. The variation in prices among different businesses affiliated with the ITO and bakers' association has sparked public debate. With the new tariff, it is aimed to achieve a balance in prices.
