According to the tariff set by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Council, the most expensive burial plot fee in Istanbul has been determined to be 334,896 lira. The fees for available burial plots in the city start at 10,728 lira, depending on their category.

According to the tariff set by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Council, the prices for vacant grave sites in the city range from 10,728 lira to 334,896 lira, depending on the group.

100% INCREASE IN BURIAL FEES

The third session of the IMM Council's December meetings was held at the municipal building in Saraçhane, chaired by the Council's 2nd Vice President Gökhan Gümüşdağ.

During the meeting, the cemetery fees and service charges for the year 2026 were discussed. In this context, the funeral services and cemetery fees that will be valid from January 1, 2026, were determined by the Council.

According to the tariff, services such as mortuary, wooden coffin, funeral coffin cover, burial operations, and transportation outside Istanbul will continue to be provided free of charge.

The fee for burial with a coffin has increased from 1,184 lira to 2,368 lira with a 100% increase, the brick tomb fee has risen from 3,700 lira to 7,400 lira, the transfer fee for graves excluding the land cost has increased from 5,968 lira to 11,936 lira, the single-storey tomb fee has gone up from 9,240 lira to 18,480 lira, and the double-storey tomb fee has increased from 12,340 lira to 24,680 lira.

THE MOST EXPENSIVE GRAVE IS 335 THOUSAND TL

The prices for cemetery plots vary by group.

In the first group, the land fee for Karacaahmet, Nakkaştepe, Çengelköy 1st Section, Zincirlikuyu, Aşiyan, Nafibaba, Ulus, and Abide-i Hürriyet, which was 17,904 lira, has increased by 200% to 53,712 lira.

The land fee for the vacant space next to the grave has risen from 55,824 lira to 167,472 lira, the vacant grave site fee has increased from 111,632 lira to 334,896 lira, and the land fee for a child’s grave has gone up from 17,904 lira to 53,712 lira.

In the second group, which includes Emirgan, Edirnekapı Martyrdom, Merdivenköy, Küçükbakkalköy, Bülbülderesi, Feriköy, Sütlüce, and Avcılar, the land fee of 3,248 lira has increased to 6,496 lira, the vacant space fee next to the grave has risen from 22,384 lira to 44,768 lira, and the vacant grave site fee has increased from 44,788 lira to 89,536 lira. The land fee for a child’s grave, which was 3,248 lira, is now 6,496 lira.

In the third group, which includes Hekimbaşı, Kurtköy, Çekmeköy, Kilyos, Cebeci, and Kayabaşı, the land fee has increased from 272 lira to 408 lira, the vacant grave site fee has risen from 14,928 lira to 22,392 lira, the vacant space fee next to the grave has increased from 7,456 lira to 11,184 lira, and the land fee for a child’s grave has gone up from 128 lira to 192 lira.

In the fourth group, which includes Ayazağa, Bahçeköy, Kemerburgaz, and Kısırkaya, previously classified as villages, the land fee has increased from 272 lira to 408 lira, the vacant grave site fee has risen from 7,152 lira to 10,728 lira, the vacant space fee next to the grave has increased from 3,584 lira to 5,376 lira, and the land fee for a child’s grave has gone up from 128 lira to 192 lira.

In cemeteries belonging to non-Muslims, the land fee for a burial has increased from 1,360 lira to 2,720 lira, the vacant grave site next to the deceased has risen from 14,336 lira to 28,672 lira, the vacant grave site fee has increased from 23,280 lira to 46,560 lira, and the land fee for a child’s grave has gone up from 544 lira to 1,088 lira.

The cost of using drinking water has increased from 61,600 lira to 500,000 lira with a 710.90% increase.
