In the case of the murder of Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi, two defendants were sentenced to the maximum of 24 years in prison, while two others were acquitted and released. The Istanbul Anadolu Chief Public Prosecutor's Office appealed the acquittal decision regarding the two defendants.
In the historical Tuesday Market in Kadıköy, Istanbul, Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi (15), who went there to buy skateboarding equipment, was stabbed to death. In the murder case, the court sentenced the defendants B.B. and U.B. to the maximum penalty of 24 years in prison for "deliberate killing of a child" and acquitted the defendants M.A.D. and A.Ö.
TENSION ERUPTED IN THE COURTROOM
After the acquittal and release decision, the courtroom became chaotic. Family members and spectators reacted strongly to the decision. While tense moments unfolded in the courtroom, aunt Aylin Akıncılar İyiyazıcıoğlu suffered a nervous breakdown. Following the decision, mother Yasemin Minguzzi, who also had a nervous breakdown and fell ill, was treated in an ambulance.
THE CHIEF PUBLIC PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE APPEALED THE ACQUITTAL DECISION
The lawyer of the Minguzzi family, Ersan Barkın, stated, "The decision is unacceptable. We believe that the higher court will overturn the decision. We will appeal," while mother Yasemin Minguzzi said, "I now only trust divine justice."
The Istanbul Anadolu Chief Public Prosecutor's Office appealed the acquittal decision regarding the 2 defendants in the Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi case.
In the statement made by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the following expressions were included:
"On January 24, 2025, in the Tuesday market in Kadıköy District of Istanbul, as a result of the investigation conducted regarding the murder of Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi due to a knife attack, the Juvenile Offenders (B.B. and U.B.) who committed the act were captured as the primary perpetrators and were arrested as a result of the proceedings. Juvenile Offenders (M.A.D. and A.Ö.) were also captured and a detention order was issued against them on the grounds that they facilitated the commission of the crime and assisted in it.
Our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office conducted a meticulous investigation against the Juvenile Offenders (B.B. and U.B.) for the crime of deliberate killing of a child as joint perpetrators; and against the Juvenile Offenders (A.Ö. and M.A.D.) for the crime of aiding in the deliberate killing of a child, and an indictment was prepared, leading to a public case being opened at the Istanbul Anadolu 2nd Heavy Juvenile Court.
In the opinion regarding the main issue, it was requested that the Juvenile Offenders (B.B. and U.B.) be punished with aggravated life imprisonment for the crime of deliberate killing of a child as joint perpetrators, and that the Juvenile Offenders (A.Ö. and M.A.D.) be punished for aiding in the deliberate killing of a child, and it was also stated that the detention status of the Juvenile Offenders should continue.
In the hearing held on October 21, 2025, the court decided to punish the Juvenile Offenders (B.B. and U.B.) with 24 years in prison for the crime of deliberate killing of a child in accordance with Article 37/1 of the Turkish Penal Code, referring to Articles 82/1-e, 31/3, and 63, and to continue their detention status, while the other Juvenile Offenders (A.Ö. and M.A.D.) were acquitted and released separately. Legal remedies will also be sought regarding the issues that contradict the opinion."
