CHP Şanlıurfa Milletvekili Mahmut Tanal stated that the minimum wage to be determined in the new year should be at least 55 thousand lira. Citing the salaries of parliamentarians in Europe and the rates of minimum wage, Tanal said, "This is not a favor, it is a recognition of rights."
MINIMUM WAGE NEGOTIATIONS BEGIN
With only a few months left until 2026, eyes in Turkey are once again turned to minimum wage negotiations. To determine the wage that will be valid in the new year, workers, employers, and the Ministry of Labor and Social Security are preparing to come together at a tripartite table. During this process, political parties and their representatives have been making consecutive statements, while CHP Şanlıurfa Deputy Mahmut Tanal made a striking post on his social media account.
"PARLIAMENTARIAN SALARIES IN EUROPE..."
Tanal pointed out that the difference between parliamentarian salaries and minimum wage in European countries is on average four times, stating that a similar ratio should be applied for Turkey as well. The CHP deputy stated in his post, "The difference between parliamentarian salaries and minimum wage in Europe is on average four times. In Germany, the parliamentarian salary is 11,800 euros, while the minimum wage is 2,200 euros. In France, it is 7,600 euros compared to 1,800 euros, in the Netherlands, 10,100 euros compared to 2,490 euros, and in Poland, the minimum wage is 4,660 zloty compared to 12,800 zloty."
"MINIMUM WAGE MUST BE AT LEAST 55 THOUSAND LIRA"
Mahmut Tanal, noting that the difference is approximately 4.15 times the European average, argued that the minimum wage in Turkey should be at least 55 thousand lira based on his calculations. He stated, "In Turkey, the parliamentarian salary is 229,676 lira. When the same ratio is applied, the minimum wage should be at least 55 thousand lira. This calculation is not politics, it is a matter of mathematics and justice. Article 55 of the Constitution imposes an obligation on the state to provide wages that allow workers to live with dignity."
"THIS IS NOT A FAVOR, IT IS A RECOGNITION OF RIGHTS"
Tanal concluded his statement with the words, "A realistic, fair, and dignified wage should be determined for the millions who earn their living through the sweat of their brow. This is not a favor, it is a recognition of rights."
