A citizen who backed out at the last minute from a second-hand car for which he had given a deposit cited his spouse's dislike for the car's color and pointed out scratches on the rims, asking for his deposit back. The incident sparked a debate on social media; while some users criticized the buyer, others argued that one could be justified if visual defects were noticed at the time of delivery.

A citizen sparked a debate on social media after deciding not to purchase a second-hand vehicle for which they had paid a deposit. The buyer cited their spouse's dislike of the car's color and the presence of scratches on the rims as reasons; a disagreement arose between the parties regarding the return of the deposit.

VIEWERS OF THE VIDEO WERE DIVIDED

In posts shared on social media, users were split; some criticized the buyer's attitude, commenting, "Why do you pay a deposit and then back out?" while others expressed the opinion that "If visual defects like color and scratches on the rims were noticed at the time of delivery, the buyer is justified."

Some of the comments made under the post are as follows;

  • Legally, the seller is right; the deposit is forfeited.
  • The citizen is in a consumer position... There is no valid contract, they can take their money back in any case.
  • If a deposit was made and the car does not turn out as stated, the dealer should refund it. The wife not liking the color is not a valid reason...
  • If they backed out, they will have to drink a glass of cold water on top of that money.
